Oyster mushrooms are native to both deciduous hardwood and conifer tree species. Recognized as wood decomposers, they are ubiquitous in forestlands around the world. Known for preying on parasitic nematodes.

Substrate: Pasteurized straw, Hardwood chips and sawdust, various grains, newspaper and cardboard.

Saprobic; growing in shelf-like clusters on dead logs and living trees (primarily hardwoods, but sometimes on conifers); causing a white rot; fall, winter, and early spring; common; widely distributed in North America.
